Dante Galamini hit a double in the bottom of the last inning to drive in the winning run as Peter Martin Appliances stopped Optimists Club of Hamilton by a 7-6 score to claim the West Mountain Baseball Association Mosquito Division Park Championship. After three scoreless innings, Optimists scored three in the top of the 4th for a 3-0 lead, however, Peter Martin also came back to tie the score at 3-3 at the end of 4 innings. Peter Martin then scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th for a 6-3 lead, only to have Optimists Club score 3 runs in the top of the 6th to again tie the score and set up the tie breaker. Anselmo Miller hit a home run for Peter Martin and had 2 RBIs while Evan Hillock was the winning pitcher with Megan St. Martin the defensive star for PM. For Optimists, Tyler Ormerod made a spectacular over the shoulder catch in the 4th inning to put out the side and was assisted on defence by Derek Demmans who made some great grabs. On offence, Eric Reid and Jake Gajic both hit doubles with 2 RBIs each in the nail biter.
In the Rookie Ball Division, Anthony Minotti hit a triple in the top of the last inning with the bases loaded as Optimists Club of Hamilton erased an 8-6 deficit and held on to beat Triple F Paving 11-9 and capture the Park Championship. Ayden Howells-Watt, Ethan Evangelista and Abbey Dunn were all 3 for 3 at the plate while David Rule and Justin DeZoete were standouts on defence for Optimists.
For Triple F Paving, Myles Robinson and Ethan Ellis both went 3 for 3 at the plate as well as Nolan Ormerod who had a triple, double and single in his three at bats.
Ormerod and Chelsea MacKenzie were defensive standouts for Triple F. Drew Clark and Marcus Falcone each hit a home run as they helped Unity Lodge #47 upend CM Printing 26-20 to claim the Soft Toss championship. Andrew Colombe went 3 for 3 at the plate for Unity. Kirby Crowley hit a home run for CM Printing while Nolan Hammond and Mackenzie Yeo were 3 for 3 at the plate. Hammond and Yeo were also voted defensive stars of the game.
Royal Canadian Legion #163 claimed the Park Championship in the Peewee Division as they upended M & L Equipment Testing by an 11 – 3 score. The Legion jumped out to a 5 – 0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Ainsleigh Williams went 3 for 3 at the plate with 3 RBIs and David Vaillancort was 2 for 3 and 2 RBIs to lead the Legion on offence. Christopher Bullick gave up one hit with 6 K's in 3 innings to get the win while Williams got the save. Christopher Nardi led M & L on offence as he went 2 for 3 at the plate with a double. Kyle Lord and Shane Lord combined with Nardi to complete a sparkling double play to limit the damage in the third inning.
Darren Dwyer was named the tournament MVP as he pitched a one hitter with 3Ks, went 2 for 3 at the plate with two doubles, knocked in four runs and scored two to lead the Guelph Royals to a 14-0 victory over the Simcoe Giants and their fifth win without a loss thus claiming the Peewee Division "AAA" championship in the 28 team Mosquito/Peewee "Topper's Pizza" Rep Baseball Classic hosted by West Mountain Baseball Association on the weekend. Sean Gade also hit two singles and scored 3 runs for the Royals.
In semi-final play, the Royals got by Pickering Red Sox 11-6 while Simcoe eked by the Bolton Braves 3-1. In the Peewee "AA" title game, Milton Mets outlasted the Aurora Jays 22-12. Josh Maxwell was 4 for 5 at the plate and scored four runs for the Mets while Thomas Curley was 4 for 4 with a double and scored three runs for the Jays. In the "A" final, Niagara Falls Falcons came from behind in a slugfest to nip Royal York Cardinals 20-19.
In the Mosquito Division, Daniel McCutcheon won the tournament MVP trophy as he pitched a 3 hitter with 4Ks and was 2 for 3 at the plate in helping the Kitchener Panthers stop the Simcoe Giants 8-1 and take the "AAA" championship. Keaton Walls picked up the save as he was also 2 for 3 at the plate and scored 2 runs. Karsten Horton scored for Simcoe. In semi-final play, Kitchener stopped Milton 9-3 while Simcoe scored six runs in the last inning to upset the unbeaten Vaughan Vikings by a 9-5 score. In the "AA" final, Peterborough Tigers took the title with an 11-10 win over the Port Hope River Rats in a game that saw a few lead changes. Brock Newell and Owen Butler were both 2 for 2 at the plate and scored 3 runs each for the Tigers, while Bradon Halford was 3 for 3 at the plate and scored 3 runs for the River Rats. Barrie Red Sox pounded out the hits as they took the "A1" title with a 23-4 victory over Mississauga Southwest Twins while Oakville A's outslugged Welland Mustangs 16-6 in the "A2" final.
